About the program

The online MPA in Emergency and Disaster Management provides students with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the field of Emergency Management and to develop the competencies necessary for successful careers at the federal, state, city, and private sector level. It combines education with five days of field immersion (residency) at MCNY’s Manhattan campus.

Unlike other Low Residency programs in which students are paired with a single faculty member for the duration of their studies, the distance education format of the MPA-EDM program is organized into seven week sessions. This provides the benefit of exposure to a variety of professors in each genre over the course of the curriculum as well as rigorous interaction with peers.

Students can complete the MPA-EDM-DST online in 12 months, as a full-time student. The program requires 45 credits of coursework and is organized into three, 14-week semesters. Each semester is comprised of two, seven-week sessions. As part of the coursework, students must complete a 3-semester project, or Constructive Action (CA). The CA is split into three parts, and students work with a single faculty member who helps them with the project throughout the year.
